Announcing the arrival of Ryan Lee

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

Well, a day late because it just still isn’t in my blood to post everyday.

But my baby boy has arrived! And 12 days earlier at that! EDD was 30th, but he decided to push through on 18th. 18-01-08, not a bad date eh?

It was really meant to be one of the last few routine checkups at the gynae, and we originally planned to leave house at 8am. Wife started experiencing contractions at 5am, not that I know about it of course as I was sound asleep. She got up and sent some emails to her colleagues, “just in case”. Finally, she woke me up at 7:30am to start preparing, and we dropped off Reyanne at my mum’s, since it was looking likely that the delivery will happen. Reached TMC at around 8:45am, and wife went ahead to register first. Next moment, I got a SMS from her at 9:15am saying that the dilation has started and already at 5cm - doctor predicts the baby will come out within 2 hours. I then rushed over, got her registration done (waiting time was awfully long, around 30 minutes for just 2 people ahead of me in the queue), and when I went up to prepare to wait in the waiting area, I got a call from the delivery ward asking me to go into the delivery room NOW! That was 10:05am. Went in, and at 10:10am, Ryan cried to the world to announce his arrival. Talk about a fast and smooth delivery!

So that’s it! Time for me to spend even more time to entertain my little princess to share the workload. Standby for pictures after the two of them return home tomorrow afternoon!

Wow! 2 Posts in a Day?

Not that anyone cares really. Well, it’s my 2nd anniversary since ORDing from the RSN. Life has been fun and interesting, and I truly enjoy the flexibility in time afforded by the change. I may not be financially better off, but I’m mentally and psychologically much better off. No matte what, thank you RSN for enabling me to study in Manchester and seeing Old Trafford in person, and of course for the financial stability over my bond. I believe I have in return given a good 4 years back to you.

Sidetracking a bit, I read some interesting comments by some readers who found this little space overwhelming with text and no pictures. Firstly, amazing that someone actually dug up this little site. Sorry, but I didn’t know bloggers were obliged to contain images on a certain proportion to the amount of text. Not that I care. I don’t depend on templates which others wrote, except for WordPress of course. Oh, and vans are not stupid. Driving a Ferrari doesn’t make one any cleverer as well. I merely live within my means, get on with my life and enjoy being with my family. Criticise only when you’re in a better position through your own means and decisions.

The irony of it all…

Just the other day, while sending my parents home, I overheard my father narrating an interesting piece of news. Apparently, someone in peninsula-M was caught without his identification card while somewhere out there. He was then put in jail for some reasons while investigation was supposed to be taking place. That took 6 months.

I then recounted to a certain Mr TTD who was sentenced to 3 months jail for what I consider general misappropriation of public funds and trust, in the process benefiting himself tangibly. Yes yes, he was earning peanuts, so I guess he was entitled to it.

Anyway, the funny thought that came to mind was this: it is more severe to be caught without your IC in peninsula-M, than to do something like what Mr TTD did in the LRD. So yes, life in the LRD is indeed better than many places out there, if and only if you’ve the necessary linkages to line your own pockets. Otherwise, just be prepared to slog your life away, or be a Quitter. Simple.

The 7 Wonders of Singapore

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

Yes, there’s all the talk about the new Seven Wonders of the World, and Straits Times just had to localise the issue and conduct a survey about the 7 Wonders of S’pore. Here’s mine:

  1. I wonder when I’ll strike Toto New Year Hongbao Draw.
  2. I wonder when I’ll strike 4D first prize.
  3. (Entrepreneur) I wonder when my business will stabilise and start being profitable / (Employee) I wonder how stable this job is.
  4. (Entrepreneur) I wonder how much bonus I can afford to issue / (Employee) I wonder how much bonus I’ll get this year.
  5. (Singles) I wonder when I’ll meet the right guy or girl / (Married) I wonder when I’ll have my first kid and what kind of parent will I be.
  6. (Parents) I wonder how well my children will grow / (Children) I wonder when my parents will start giving me the freedom I want.
  7. I wonder when figures will stop being inflated and life will actually be better for those who earn a livelihood that does not involve the government.

That’s my idea of the 7 wonders of the general population. There’ll probably be a few strayers, especially those who don’t invest in lottery and those who are married but do not plan to have children. There are also those who have a good job in a good firm, but do take note of what the average wage is and you’ll know that perhaps a large proportion of the population does not enjoy such good wages.
